Tips

Small workflows, big difference

14 ways to get more out of Tuckaroo. Each takes a minute to set up.

⇧⌘5

Screenshots that skip your desktop

Give your screenshots a folder of their own and show it as a tab in Files. Every screenshot lands in the panel, your desktop stays clean, and you drag it straight into a chat, an email or a document.

  1. Press ⇧⌘5, open Options and choose Save to › Other Location… For example, a new folder named Screenshots.
  2. In Tuckaroo's Files column, right-click a tab and choose Add Folder as Tab… Then pick that same folder.
  3. Take a screenshot with ⇧⌘4. Pull the panel down and drag it wherever you need it.

Rather use Terminal? This makes the folder in Pictures and saves your screenshots there:

mkdir -p ~/Pictures/Screenshots && defaults write com.apple.screencapture location ~/Pictures/Screenshots && killall SystemUIServer

⇧⌘V

Your clipboard history, without the mouse

In any app, what you copied appears in the middle of the screen, and your hands stay on the keyboard.

  1. Press ⇧⌘V and keep holding ⇧ (⌘ may go).
  2. Tap V again, or use ↑↓, to step back to an older clip.
  3. Press ←→ to switch between History and your Favorites.
  4. Let go of ⇧ and the clip is pasted right where you were. Changed your mind? Press esc.

Pasting into another app needs your permission once (Settings › Clipboard › Paste into apps); without it, the clip is copied for you to paste. Prefer other keys? Pick them in Settings › Shortcuts.

⌥ + scroll

Your issues and your timesheet, side by side

Log your hours without hunting for tabs: the issue you work on next to the timer, one gesture away.

  1. Click + below the column icons in the panel's sidebar and add your issue tracker, then your time tracker. Each web app gets a column of its own.
  2. Click + below the profile buttons to add a profile, and show just those two and Calendar in it.
  3. In Settings › Profiles, give it ⌥ under Open by scrolling down with. Hold ⌥ and scroll down on the menu bar to log your hours.

Downloads as a tab

Whatever you just downloaded is one scroll away, ready to drag where it belongs.

  1. In the Files column, right-click a tab and choose Add Folder as Tab…
  2. Pick your Downloads folder. Its tab shows what came in; ⌘2 shows it as a list.

Notes beside the call

Before a meeting, drag Notes out of the panel. It stays open as a window of its own while you talk, and fades when you're not using it.

  1. Drag the Notes column by its header out of the panel and let go.
  2. Hold ⌥ while you let go to keep it above the panel too.
  3. Done? Drag it back to the menu bar and it docks again.

Two accounts on one site

Work mail and private mail side by side, both signed in.

  1. Add the site as a page twice, with + below the column icons in the panel's sidebar.
  2. For the second one, tick Its own sign-in (a second account) and sign in there with your other account.

Meetings without searching

Never hunt for a call link again: the next meeting sits next to the menu bar icon.

  1. Turn on Next meeting next to the icon in Settings › Calendar.
  2. A minute before a call, a card offers Join. In the Calendar column, every meeting with a call link has the same button.

Code that reads like code

Keep the commands you run and the snippets you reuse in a note, in colour and with a copy button.

  1. In a note, type three backticks and the language, like ```bash or ```swift, or use the code button in the toolbar.
  2. Paste your code. Point at the block and click its copy button to copy it exactly.

And a few more

Snippets you paste every day

Star a clip and it stays in Favorites: your address, a sign-off, the link you share every week. In the ⇧⌘V window, → takes you there.

Your notes on every Mac

Put the notes folder in iCloud Drive or Dropbox with Choose… in Settings › Notes › Notes folder. They're plain Markdown files, so any editor opens them too.

Share your screen calmly

Clips stay blurred until you point at one, so nobody reads along. Before you copy something private, click Keeping in the Clipboard column to pause the history.

One gesture per profile

In Settings › Profiles, give each profile a key under Open by scrolling down with, like ⇧ for Work and ⌘ for Personal. Hold it while you scroll down on the menu bar.

Laptop and big screen

Make a profile for each screen, set their widths and turn on Switch profiles by screen width in Settings › Profiles. Three columns on the laptop, five on the display.

A quick look without Finder

Select a file in the Files column and press Space to see a PDF or a picture without opening it.
